Held on the 18th of August, the Victorian State Boulder Titles went off with a bang. Over 100 competitors from ranging from 6 years old into their 50’s competed in 16 different categories. With a huge range of excellent problems, set by some of the best setters around, there was no shortage of triumph and tragedy, as the athletes tried their hearts out to scale as many of the climbs allotted to them in their 2 hour window.
There were stand out performances by all throughout the day and we congratulate all for turning up. But there has to be a winner and to the 16 winners, Well Done and congratulations. Now it is on to the Nationals in Perth for the Seniors, Good Luck and Go Victoria.

2016 in Review
Hello to all
2016 has been another year, a year that has been a bit rubbish for many reasons, but a year that Climbing and The Rock Adventure Centre has enjoyed immensely with great success. We have had a fantastic year introducing new people to terrific vertical world of rock climbing with a huge amount making it there new sport. The offshoot of this is, if you find yourself without a belay, there is always a great person around to lend a hand, give you a catch, or even just some beta on that tricky climb you’ve been working on.
We have also have helped well over 50 kids celebrate their Birthdays with us, at 10 children minimum per birthday, that’s over 500 kids having the time of their lives at The Rock. This is always an exiting time for a kid and we love to share in their excitement and give them a party they will be talking about and sharing with their friends until the next one.
Our school trips are always popular and after running them for 15 years, both indoor and outdoor, we are highly skilled and meeting and exceeding teachers and students needs and expectations with cries of “I’m coming back here on the weekend” usually heard on the way out. With our outdoor experiences it is even more important to get young people outside to experience not only the climbing, but just the outdoors itself, so they can connect outside and appreciate it more.

Climb-it Club and Team Rock are still a fantastic way to get Kids started on an alternative to normal team sports and climbing is a great way to teach responsibility, strength and to get them to expand their horizons and their limits. We have had some of our kids competing this year as well, at both a local and State level with some great success stories as well.
Finally i want to thank everyone who has come into, climbed or supported The Rock in whatever way you have. It means a lot to us that we can still get people in and psyched for climbing, or just to be able to tick something off their list both Indoors and Outdoors as well. If you loved us this year, wait until you see what we have in store in 2017. New sessions, new wall, holds and more.
Cheers From The Rock
Olympics and Climbing

If you haven’t heard the latest news from the IOC, Rock Climbing has made it into the Olympic Games and will be a demonstration sport in the 2020 Tokyo Games.
A lot has been said and written about this so far, it’s bad for the sport, it’s going to ruin it and change it forever. This is balder-dash!
Climbing, along with Surfing and Skateboarding, that have also made the Olympics, are sports that don’t need a competitive aspect to still be a great time. People will still go out with their mates and climb on smaller cliffs and venture further into the large cliffs and mountains, this will not change. Those people and the majority of climbers are like that, enjoy the challenge that the real cliffs give them and don’t need to compete against others to have the same feeling.
Competitive climbing is a great thing and can hone your training and focus to achieve things that usually are outside your grasp and with the fact that Climbing is now a recognized sport in Australia, this is going to help competition climbers excel like never before in Australia, as well as assisting the facilities and support structures for them.
After all is said and down though, climbing still is and always will be, for most of us, a great way to get outside and test our physical and mental limits, or just have a awesome time outside with friends.
Kids Outdoor Climbing Adventure
On Saturday the 25th of June, with the weather cold and clear, the Climb-it Club and Team Rock end of term outdoor trip headed out to the Staughton Vale cliff face. This is one of the best climbing areas around the Geelong region and with a small, but psyched young crew, we were in for a great day. We started the day with some basic safety procedures as many of the days participants had not been outside before. We headed off to the cliff and everyone, parents included got to help with some rope carrying and also assisting with some of the set ups. We then headed down to the base, just as the sun hit the cliff, to get on and climb.

The day was a great success, after such a dismal weather week, it was great to get a clear, sunny day to get everyone out on the Rocks. All the kids are already looking forward too the next one.
Climb-it Club and Team Rock starts back on the first week of term 3, check out details Here for more info.
Kid’s Rock School Holiday Sessions
We have been doing school holiday activities at The Rock Adventure Centre since 2001 and since then our reputation for the best, exciting and safe time for kids and parents alike has become cemented around Geelong and the Surfcoast.
The instructors
at The Rock have been trained in house by our senior instructors and have have years of experience, training, supervising and giving Geelong families the best and most exciting experience in town.
Climbing is a great sport, but most people believe that it is all about upper body strength, or that you have to be a mad adrenaline junkie to participate, but more and more people are finding it is a great fit for their kids. Either for a one off session or as a new focus for their time and energy. It is always a great feeling to see a timid child really open up and conquer their fears as well as push themselves to find some new limits and have an awesome time doing it.
Our fully supervised sessions are a great way for kids to have their first forays into the vertical world in a safe and supportive atmosphere and parents can feel confident that the kids will have an exciting adventure at The Rock Adventure Centre.
Rock Climbing the new total Fitness workout.
Fitness and strength, we want it but have you been down at the local gym, staring blankly at the front of a treadmill or watching the weight stacks going up and down, wondering what you are doing this for? Plenty of us have been there, bored with the same old workout that you are do, just so you can get through the next one, wondering what this fitness is actually for. Now, more and more people are finding that your workouts don’t have to be like that. Climbing is becoming more peoples workout of choice.
Generally climbing has always been considered the domain of the outdoor adventure junkie and thrill seeker. The Rock however has a bright, cruisy atmosphere staffed by climbers who are experienced and psyched to give everyone the best, safest and most exciting climbing experience they can.
Climbing is about the community that is around now and is the workout that you will look forward to heading out for, rather than dreading. The feeling that you get when you get up a climb that you have been struggling on is amazing, so much so that you don’t realize that you are getting a low impact full body workout at the same time, this is what a climbing workout offers. Not only are you strengthening everything from your toes through to your fingertips, your mind is so engaged in the whole experience that you forget that you are getting a workout. You also have a goal for the next visit, getting up that particular climb has a huge motivational effect on your training and helps you to focus through that last lap to help ensure success.
We have a great bunch of regulars that climb at The Rock and most of them have met through here, sharing the challenges that the walls give and offering encouragement and a “catch” when they fall off.
The Rock prides itself on the quality and professional nature of all our sessions, both indoor and outdoor. Rock climbing is not only great fun, it’s also a great challenge both physically and mentally. It is an ideal activity for people of all ages as we have over 25 different walls with over 100 climbs to choose from. You can come in and really test your mind and your body and find your limit, or just have a great session with your mates for fun!” http://rockadventures.com.au/
